Sometimes Christian unity suffers when believers take their eyes off of Christ and focus on lesser issues. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Philippian church encouraging two women in the congregation to “bury the hatchet” and come together in love. He wrote: “I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to live in harmony in the Lord. Indeed, true. The crux of the issue is this: the denomination is struggling to understand what is Christian unity and are there limits to it. Both sides have their views on sexual ethics, what is the gospel for their gay neighbor and biblical hermeneutics. But underneath all the disagreement, Christian unity is the fundamental issue.

Introduction Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholics have many similarities. It can be argued that the two communions share much in common concerning of the Trinity, Scripture, Redemption, the Sacraments and Eschatology. The obstacles remaining between the two ecclesiastical bodies, however, are profound, and result in a lack of Eucharistic communion. Biblical truth on essential doctrines, not “Christian love,” must be the basis for unity. I often hear, “Jesus said that the world will know we are Christians by our love and unity, not by our doctrine.” The implication is that doctrine is both divisive and secondary to love.

Joy in Christian Unity. Philippians We will continue our study of the book of Philippians this morning by examining and the reasons, requirements and basis for unity within the church. In one sense, this study of unity would seem to have little application to our church at present because at present we have a high degree of unity.   Unity of SA provides opportunities for exploring your inner power, your Divine Identity.
